Laury Shattock (Mrs. Shattock)

Date of hire: February 2005

My favorite children's book/story:

The Jester who Lost His Jingle — about the healing nature of laughter! The author died at 22 of Hodgkin's disease before the book was published. I was fortunate enough to meet his parents at a conference and loved them. With the help from Maurice Sendek, his book was published.

Fun facts about me:

I am married and have two wonderful daughters! I played sports all through high school and college (volleyball and softball). I love following college and professional football! Go Niners!! Go Stanford!!

Why did you decide to work with preschoolers?

I have always wanted to be a teacher! Once I had children of my own, I was in love with all the growth and success that a child learns on a daily basis. Also, all the love that we get in return — makes my day!

What do you love the most about teaching/working with little ones?

Young children learn from everything they do. They are naturally curious; they want to explore and discover. I love how their explorations bring them pleasure or success. Their facial expressions are priceless! What can be better than that?!

From your perspective, what makes the Children's Center so special?

The Children's Center has such a loving, sharing and supportive environment. We all love what we do and it shows.
