Spring 2008 Parent Newsletter

Dear Lucky parents of all the precious children within our care,

Once again I stand in awe at the swift passage of time. Surely it was just last month that we greeted you all as you came to school for the first time or returned as friends we had missed over the summer. Each September we meet our new little ones and their families with smiles, encouragement and reassuring hugs. Each June we send them on their way with hugs and kisses, laughter over shared memories and secretly wipe away a tear as we watch them walk away. As parents and teachers we work so hard to give our children the skills and confidence they will need to be independent. When they can go off to camp, or to college or even to Kindergarten, it is a HUGE accomplishment and represents hard work on the part of the parents, the teachers and of course, the children themselves who have had to learn to trust, take risks, fall down a few times and get back up. Life is not easy — nor should it be. Nothing of value is. But when we learn how to deal with adversity, value our triumphs and learn from our mistakes, that is when the true growth takes place and where we ultimately determine what kind of human being we will become.

This year has seen great joy with the addition of beautiful, beloved babies to many of our families. We were always so relieved to hear, "Mommy and Baby are doing well." We also stood, broken hearted and helpless when we learned that one of our Daddies had passed away. I was so proud of how you all came forward, in a myriad of ways, to help the Thomason family. Lara and the boys will need your love and support for quite a while. Lisa Deegan is overseeing the family's requests for assistance. Contact her at lisadeegan@comcast.net. Anyone interested in volunteering to help out Lara and the boys can be added as members to a website community that Lisa has created through "Lotsa Helping Hands". People just need to know that it is basically a volunteer on-line community that lets people sign up for different activities that provide help for Lara, Aidan and Ryan. People who want to get involved need to sign up as a member:

New members can be directed to this website: http://www.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/604311/login and they can fill out the right-hand side of the form. This will be a request to join the community. Once people start to fill this out, Lisa will receive an email stating that there is a 'pending' member. Once she gets these she will approve them and they will be automatically added to the community and automatically sent instructions for setting a password and signing-in.

If you would like to be of help but are short on time, the family would also benefit through your donations to:

I will be out of the office from June 4th through the 6th. We have three graduates this year! Jennifer graduated from Northwestern Law School last weekend, Doug graduates from Harvard Business School on the 6th and KC graduates from Los Altos High School on the 6th as well. Yes! We are going to both! Graduating from Preschool, Elementary School, High School, College or Graduate School are all monumental steps. After 30 years of parenting, I can say with absolute conviction that it may not always be a smooth ride but having children is indeed the most fun a person can have in life. Find Joy every day!

HAVE A FABULOUS, RESTFUL, FAMILY-FILLED SUMMER!
